Master pastel artist Albert Handell honored us with his teaching this past week. Mr. Handell has over 50 years of painting under his belt so you can only imagine how much knowledge he gave out. It was a wonderful workshop with students as far as Alaska flying in to study with this master. Albert did numerous demonstrations. The first demo was straight on the pastel paper from life outside. We wish everyone could have seen him work so swiftly, and with such accuracy. He has such a soft touch and a great sense of local color. The second demo was on how to lay in a watercolor wash before you begin your pastel painting on top. Then he really switched it up and did an oil demonstration of a rapid water stream. He finished the week with grasping the realism of a single tree with a charcoal drawing. He has such great drawing skills that it just came alive instantly.
